Council to take action on Resolution No. 30-25 approving the West Valley Fire Apparatus
Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority, the City of Avondale, the City of
El Mirage, the City of Glendale, the City of Goodyear, the City of Peoria, the City of Surprise, the City of
Tolleson, the Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical District, and the Sun City Fire District; and authorizing the
Mayor to execute and deliver said Agreement on behalf of the City of Buckeye.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Fire Department is requesting approval and ratification of the West Valley Fire Apparatus
Intergovernmental Agreement to allow included agencies to lend and borrow fire apparatus on an as-
needed basis to benefit public safety. The agreement will continue in force for five(5) years or until
terminated by formal act of the Parties.
BENEFITS:
As our city and department continue to grow, maintaining public safety operations is a top priority. Our
aging fleet has led to reserve units being placed into front-line service, significantly reducing our backup
resources. With apparatus replacement lead times estimated as far out as 48 months, this agreement
serves as a crucial contingency plan to prevent disruptions in public safety operations. Without it, the
depletion of available units could severely impact emergency response capabilities.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
Potential operating costs for borrowed apparatus would include fuel, oil, other necessary vehicular fluids,
licenses, license registration fees, municipal licenses and inspection fees. These costs will be included in
the approved budget.
