Buckeye Road – Application Summary Recap 
Project Description:   
The City of Buckeye’s Public Works Department seeks to reconstruct Lower Buckeye Road from 247th Avenue 
to Watson Road. The current roadway surface is “very poor”, with a Pavement Condition Index number of 36. 
The roadway is currently experiencing alligator pattern cracking, block cracking with fatigue cracking in the 
wheel paths, and several longitudinal cracking areas, causing safety concerns for all roadway users. The 
project includes the complete removal and reconstruction of the asphalt paving and the addition of all 
appropriate signage and striping. All striping will comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices 
standards. Americans with Disabilities Act compliant features that may be available, needed, and/or required 
will be addressed and prioritized. This stretch of road work is approximately 1.75 miles.

If awarded, the Award Agreement will be presented to Council for acceptance and approval. Any 
additional Lower Buckeye Road reconstruction or maintenance needs will come from the General Fund 
account unless additional grant funding opportunities become available, in which case the Grants team 
will pursue.  
Objectives and Expected Outcomes  
• 
Safety is the number one reason for this roadway reconstruction. The objective is to ensure that the 
integrity of the roadway is improved to handle the anticipated increase in traffic, not only for residential 
vehicles, but also commercial and industrial vehicles. This roadway reconstruction will improve roadway 
safety through improved vehicle handling, increase road durability and longevity, and promote regional 
roadway connectivity and integrity. Upon completion of this reconstruction project, the roadway will 
move to a rating of “good” from its current rating of “very poor”.
