Council to take action on the submission of a $447,228 Fiscal Year 2026 Maricopa County Community
Action Program Grant Application to extend the City of Buckeye Community Action Program's support
services; and authorize and direct the Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk to take all
steps necessary to carry out the purpose and intent of said Grant Application.
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Buckeye's Community Services Department (CSD) seeks to continue its partnership with the
Maricopa County Community Action Program. The program provides support that fosters self-sufficiency
and stability through limited, temporary assistance with utility costs and eviction prevention, information
and referral resources, and short-term case management for residents. The CSD requested grant
funding of $165,000 from the Maricopa County Community Action Program, and if awarded, the City of
Buckeye is required to contribute at least a 25% match. Buckeye will contribute an in-kind match of
$282,228 through normal budgeted items such as personnel and operating expenses, which have been
budgeted for FY 2026.
BENEFITS:
The objective is to extend the City of Buckeye's partnership with the Maricopa County Community Action
Program to provide support to residents in Buckeye. The program provides support that fosters self-
sufficiency and stability through limited, temporary assistance with utility costs and eviction prevention,
information and referral resources, and short-term case management for residents.
FUTURE ACTION:
If awarded, the Award Agreement will be presented to Council for acceptance and approval. Any
additional funding needs will come from the Community Services Department General Fund account
unless additional grant funding opportunities become available, in which case the Grants team will
pursue.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Maricopa County Community Action Program grant portion is $165,000. Buckeye will contribute an
in-kind match of $282,228 through normal budgeted items such as personnel and operating expenses,
which have been budgeted for Fiscal Year 2026. The total cost is $447,228.
CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TOTAL COST:
The total Fiscal Year 2026 cost is $447,228, with $165,000 reimbursable based on the budget. These
figures have been included in the City of Buckeye's Community Services Department Budget.
