This CI needs to be updated as the project total cost exceeds $100,000. The previous CI was created on May 16, 2022 in the amount of $50,000 and approved by Office of Procurement Services. The CI needs to be amended to increase total to $300,000. Approve (initial $200k + new $100k) - The County Attorney needs an experienced attorney in elections matters, specifically with the knowledge and experience pertaining to the various issues raised in litigation over the past two years and who can quickly jump in and assist with defending the members of the Board of Supervisors in an expedited basis. Emily Craiger has the specialized knowledge of the facts, litigants and witnesses and experience in Arizona elections law and to assist. Emily Craiger was selected because of her very unique experience representing the Board of Supervisors, the Recorder and her understanding of the current election issues being brought before the court. Other outside counsel that was identified either does not have the necessary experience and qualifications and it would cost too much in in-house counsel time to educate them on the issues and parties, or those with the experience already have conflicts that would prevent them from assisting in this matter. The rate is very competitive with those of firms on contract. The partner rate is $400/hr and the paralegal rate is $200/hr.
