Council to take action to ratify and approve the submission of a $393,500 "Certified Street Sweeper
Expansion and Replacement FY2027” grant application through the Maricopa Association of
Governments (MAG), with a grant request in the amount of $366,400 and a required match of $27,100

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR THE STRATEGIC PLAN FOCUS AREAS:
A Safe and Sustainable Quality of Life
SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Public Works needs one new PM-10 Certified Street Sweeper (Street Sweeper) to ensure Buckeye’s
streets are free of debris that may be harmful to the environment and humans. Public Works seeks to
replace one of its current street sweepers that has reached the end of its useful life, as well as expand its
current street sweeping service area, as more streets have been added to the City’s portfolio. The new
Street Sweeper will service arterial, collector, and residential roadways. The Grant request is for
$366,400 with a required City match of $27,100. The total cost is $393,500.
BENEFITS:
If awarded, the Grant will support Buckeye Public Works’ Street Sweeping program by adding a new
Street Sweeper to the current street sweepers in their fleet to replace an 8-year-old street sweeper. The
new replacement Street Sweeper will initially reduce maintenance costs and out-of-service time. The
2018 sweeper has been out of service 16% of the time within the last 12 months and is currently out of
service after it was run into by a semi-truck. If the Grant is awarded, the new Street Sweeper will ensure
that Public Works can continue to provide excellent service to the community by removing harmful debris
from Buckeye’s streets.
FUTURE ACTION:
If awarded, the Grant Award Agreement will be presented to Council for any needed budget authority, as
well as authority to accept and execute the same.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the Grant application. If awarded, the federal Grant portion is
$366,400. There is a $27,100 match required for this Grant that would be need to be included in the
FY2028 budget.

CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TOTAL COST:
If awarded, no expenditures are expected in FY2027 due to the time to deliver the new Street Sweeper.
