Re: Cancellation of the Annual Election of the Board of Directors of Queen Creek Irrigation District
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-410(A)
Dear Ms. McCarroll:
I am writing to request that the Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County ("Board of
Supervisors") approve the cancellation of the election called by the Board of Directors ("Board") of
Queen Creek Irrigation District ("QCID"), to be held by mail ballot on November 12, 2019.
The qualified electors of QCID filed a petition nominating Kenneth Barney for the office of
Director of QCID and requesting that his name be placed on the official ballot for the election to be
held on November 12, 2019. Kenneth Barney also filed a nomination paper announcing his candidacy
for the office of Director of QCID. QCID received no additional nomination petitions, no other
candidates filed nomination papers requesting that their names appear on the ballot, and no
individual filed a nomination paper within the time frame to be an eligible write-in candidate.
Therefore, the number of candidates for the office of Director is equal to the number of vacancies on
the Board to be filled at the election on November 12, 2019. Because Kenneth Barney will be running
unopposed for the office of Director at the election on November 12, 2019, QCID requests that the
Board of Supervisors approve the cancellation of the election and appoint Kenneth Barney to the
office of Director to fill the vacancy on the Board for a term of three (3) years, beginning on January 1,
2020, pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-410(A).
If you need any additional information to process this request, please let us know at your
earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Burt Hatch, General Manager
Queen Creek Irrigation District
