Office of the Maricopa County !C 9QI ) intendeb June 3, 2019 Shelby Sbharbach Maricopa County Assistant County Manager 301 W Jefferson 9th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003 Re: Intergovernmental Agreement with the Regional School District No. 509 and the Maricopa Treasurer Dear Shelby: Back in March 2010, agenda item C-06-10-355-00 was approved by the Board of Supervisors which effectively was the forbearance of the remaining judgement against the Regional School District from CV2006-052611. This agreement terminates on June 30, 2019. In the IGA, Maricopa County and Treasurer agree to forebear from executing the remaining portion of the judgement if District 509 does not operate a school for homeless children and only offers education services required by A.R.S. 15-913, including transitional education services to juveniles post-incarceration and to other juveniles who are at-risk of incarceration. Since the inception of this IGA, the Regional School district No, 509 has not operated a homeless school. The Regional School District has and continues to collaborate with the presiding juvenile court judge on delivery of juvenile detention center education program(s). The Regional School District will operate as the accommodation district and have 2 schools going forward (Esperanza K-8 and Hope 9-12). Both of these schools are designed for educating juveniles post-incarceration and at-risk of incarceration kids. We have eliminated all the SW Keys locations, the Continued Hope locations and all the other ancillary facilities. The Regional School District has carried out its agreement to the fullest extent. If you have any questions or would like any further information, please don't hesitate to ask. Sincer;ly, /4- Marc Kuffner, Assistant Superintendent of Economic Management 4041 N.
