Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, November 07, 2018 Page 2 of 2 Chairman Steve Chucri, District 2, offered his thanks for the service of all our veterans. There are many in the Valley of the Sun and they should be treated with dignity and respect. He stated he is grateful Maricopa County can provide services to our veterans. Mr. Moseley introduced Colonel Patrick W. Donaldson, the keynote speaker for today’s ceremony. Colonel Donaldson is the Commander, 161st Air Refueling Wing, Arizona National Guard. He noted that 100 years ago, President Woodrow Wilson established Armistice Day, now known as Veterans Day. This was the day the guns fell quiet over Europe ending World War I. Unfortunately, this was not the last war fought by our country. There have been many men and women that have served their country since then. Veterans Day is a national celebration day all across the United States. We celebrate locally to honor those that are presently serving and those who have served in the past and their families that have and are carrying on without their loved ones. He noted Veterans Day is not only about the past but to honor how our veterans pave the way for our future as they protect the blessing of our freedoms with their service. New recruits and seasoned servicemen and women know these freedoms are worth protecting. Because of the selfless sacrifice of so many, our true strength endures. Thomas Rowley played the bagpipes performing “The Green Hills of Tyrol” and “When the Battle is Over.” Fields Moseley thanked the key speakers and everyone in attendance and concluded the meeting thanking all veterans for their service.
