Project Name: Healthy Beverage Station/Nutrition Grant
Grant Award Request: $25,000.00
Please provide a brief description of the project being submitted to the 12%
SRPMIC Grant program.
Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock (Solid Rock) has been a Phoenix, Arizona based 501(c)(3)
non-profit charity for 22 years.
Solid Rock’s The Rock Teen Center opened in June 2012 and offers music, art, dance,
recording studio, film making lessons and other programs to teenagers ages 12-20 - all
free of charge. Our facility is 28,000 square feet and it has been described as a rock and
roll themed Boys & Girls Club. Solid Rock attracts an average of 100 teenagers per day
and serves 2,000-3,000 youth per year with a variety of internal and external programs.
Healthy nutrition and exercise is an important element to Solid Rock for the youth that
attend The Rock Teen Center. Throughout the year, we offer a variety of activities
including indoor dodgeball, kickball in the park, football in our parking lot and many
other fitness related activities. In addition, we offer culinary classes throughout the year
with restaurant partners providing healthy meals and/or food preparing classes to the
teenagers we serve.
On a daily basis, The Rock Teen Center envisions to have a beverage station where not
only can teenagers have healthy drink items available to them but they can acquire the
skills to create these on their own and maintain a daily habitual routine to provide these in
their daily lives. Instead of high sugar, corn syrup, etc. related soda types of drinks, we
envision our youth to be able to create healthy fruit drinks, healthy iced tea blended
drinks, etc. at our teen center.

This will guide them to life building skills they can apply on a long term basis and it will
assist them in their overall health - lowering their risk for diabetes, heart disease, high
cholesterol, etc. This beverage station will also benefit the daily lifestyles of our
volunteers, staff and visitors from the local community (parents, sponsors, partners, etc.)
at Solid Rock’s The Rock teen center. The beverage station will also encourage positive
interaction and social building skills with other youth, team building skills and offer
teenagers opportunities to not only to have the freedom to make their own positive
decisions but to allow more creativity and empowerment to enter their lives to build their
own blends/recipes every day with a variety of healthy drinks. It also will allow them an
increased knowledge of good nutrition benefits with their daily dietary habits.
With the assistance of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community 12% Grant,
Solid Rock’s The Rock teen center will be able to benefit the lives of thousands of youth
in the local community, in addition to our staff, volunteers, visitors/community partners,
etc.
