Lori Medaris - COBX From: Michelle Montijo - DIST4X Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2018 9:13 AM To: Lori Medaris - COBX Subject: FW: Proposed Waddell Fire and Medical District Hello Lori, Would you please follow up with Ms. Cosper regarding her inquiry below (the Supervisor will not be in until next week) and encourage her to follow up with Mr. Anaya as well if she still has questions? Thank you, Michelle From: Laurie Cosper [mailto:lauriecosper@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2018 7:32 PM To: Clinton Hickman - DIST4X <chickman@mail.maricopa.gov > Subject: Re: Proposed Waddell Fire and Medical District Mr Hickman Thank you for getting back to me. I am so unfamiliar with this process. On the August 15th meeting, is it just the board that votes or is it open to the public to vote as well? If approved to move forward with the petition and they gather enough signatures does it go to a public vote? The vote on this day is simply to allow the next step in this process — petition circulation. The proposed district board members of this group are then responsible for gathering 50% plus 1 signatures from property owners in the area boundaries well as 50% plus 1 of limited property value amount. I appreciate you reaching out to me with your position but allowing for democracy in this process is also important. 1 Should you have additional questions regarding the process, you are welcome to contact Lori Medaris with the Clerk of Board at 602-506-3417 or medarisl@mail.maricopa.gov or my office directly. You are also able to view the Formal hearing via the internet at: http://www.maricopa.gov/324/Board-of-Supervisors-Meeting-Information Attached is the impact statement summited by the group. The point of contact is Richard Anaya, 602-358-9166, ffranaya@gmail.com for your specific questions. Thanks again for reaching out to me. If not, would you please forward to the correct person - Thank you. I would like to start by saying that I am completely against the idea of raising taxes for a program that has given us almost no information. Especially when we already have a fire department in place that is quite effective. There is absolutely no reason to go forward with this proposal unless we are incorporating Waddell as a city and will have ALL emergency services (Waddell City Fire, Medical AND Police). However, this is not the case here. Some questions that need answered: Where is the proposed fire station going to be placed? How long until medical services are available? 2 How often and by how much will our taxes be raised? I only ask because when this happened in El Mirage they were raised annually by almost 5% each time. Where will our 911 calls be routed to? Who will be our firefighters, medical people etc.? We ALREADY have these services in place, where will my reliable firefighters/community members go? I don't know if you've seen the new recently but they are amazing. What will be the effect on my homeowners insurance? Thank you for addressing these very serious concerns. I wish I was able to attend the meeting on August 15th but with kids and work I am unable.
