APPRAISER CAREER PATH PLAN
Maricopa County Assessor's Office
Approved by the Board of Supervisors on May 6, 2009
This career path plan is for Appraisers employed within and subject to the appointing authority of the Maricopa
County Assessor's Office.
Subject to the Board of Supervisor's approval, the Assessor's Office may transfer positions from one Appraiser
Market Range Title (MRT) to another Appraiser MRT (or within an Appraiser MRT) through a non-competitive
progression as outlined below. Movement among MRTs in the Appraiser series not identified in this document
should be managed according to the County's standard recruitment and selection process. This career path plan will
be fully funded within the Assessor's Office current budget this fiscal year and subsequent years. Any salary
increase outlined in this plan is subject to the Assessor's Office having funding available.
Salaries for external candidates who are hired into positions within the Appraiser series will be determined using the
County's placement in range strategy.
Appraiser Trainee (I) to Appraiser (II)
The Assessor's Office may transfer positions from the Appraiser Trainee MRT (working title of Appraiser I) to the
Appraiser MRT (working title of Appraiser II) after the aforementioned Appraisers have, in the opinion of the
Maricopa County Assessor's Office and Employee Compensation, demonstrated the acceptable level of
performance, the attainment of the appropriate appraisal knowledge, skills and abilities, have taken and passed all
Department of Revenue (DOR) Level I courses, received DOR Level I certification and have successfully passed
initial probation.
After the position transfer is finalized, the Assessor's Office can, through the salary advancement process, request
an increase to the employee's base pay rate to the minimum of the Appraiser salary range or up to 5%, whichever is
greater, but with consideration of internal equity.
Appraiser (II) to Appraiser (III)
The Assessor's Office may change Appraiser II positions' working titles to Appraiser III (in the Appraiser MRT) after
the aforementioned Appraisers have, in the opinion of the Maricopa County Assessor's Office and Employee
Compensation, demonstrated the acceptable level of performance, the attainment of the appropriate appraisal
knowledge, skills and abilities, have taken and passed all DOR Level II courses, and received DOR Level II
certification.
After the working title change is finalized, the Assessor's Office can, through the salary advancement process,
request an increase to the employee's base pay rate up to 5%, with consideration of internal equity.
Appraiser (III) to Appraiser Senior (IV)
Progression to the highest non-supervisory level Appraiser is available through the County's standard recruitment
and selection process. Successful candidates may be eligible for a salary increase determined by the approved
Placement in Range for the Appraiser Senior MRT or up to a 5% increase to his/her base pay rate, whichever is
greater, with consideration of internal equity.
This career path replaces all previous Appraiser career path documents applicable to the Assessor's Office.
