This is in keeping with the concept of Restorative Justice. Community Restitution assists the community and its neighborhoods in their recovery from the financial and emotional harm caused by crime. Community Restitution also allows probationers to give back to and help "restore" the community that was harmed by their crimes. BUDGET CATEGORY: PERSONNEL Judicial Clerk Associate—Full Time Temporary - $12.75/hr x 2,914.31 hrs = $37,15745 The Judicial Clerk Associate interviews and evaluates probationers' skill level and each offense for appropriate agency placement. They maintain the probationers' Community Restitution records, enter completed work hours into the statewide database, tabulate statistics for monthly reports, verify Community Restitution time sheets, and maintain liaison with community agencies and probation personnel. They compile the statistics for the BjA Performance Tools and Managing for Results reports. It is a community corrections sanction that allows the victims and neighborhoods to recover from the financial and emotional harm caused by crime. It also affords the probationer an opportunity to give back for the harm that was caused by his/her crime. Community Restitution projects are performed for non-profit and government agencies throughout Maricopa County. NEED FOR PROGRAM: Community Restitution is a statutorily-mandated and court- ordered adult probation program. It is a sanction that the court can use when sentencing criminal defendants. When probationers are not in compliance with their terms of Community Restitution, additional sanctions can be applied by the Court. This grant will help this Department to have accurate and timely information by which to monitor and advise the Court as to the probationer's compliance with court orders and the actual completion of court-ordered and statutorily-mandated community restitution hours. It will also allow this Department to accurately and timely report its BJA Performance Tools and Managing for Results Community Restoration performance results. ANTICIPATED COORDINATION EFFORTS: This Department's General Fund, provided by Maricopa County, pays for 18 work crew leaders who supervise projects and the probationers while they are working on these projects, 4 program coordinators who develop projects throughout Maricopa County, 2 Judicial Clerk Associates who interview and assign probationers to job sites and compile/report statistics, and a program supervisor who manages all functions involved in this program and works to see that the goals of the program are accomplished. grant application - JAG regular FY16 project narrative Page 1 of 2 2015 LOCAL JAG PROGRAM NARRATIVE PROGRAM EVALUATION: Applicants should discuss in their application their proposed methods for collecting data for accountability measures.
