Re: Cancellation of the Annual Election of the Board of Directors of Queen Creek
Irrigation District Pursuant to A.R.S. 5 16-410(A)
Dear Sir or Madam:
This firm represents Queen Creek Irrigation District ("QCID"), an irrigation district
organized and existing under Title 48, Chapter 19 of the Arizona Revised States (A.R.S. 55 48-
2901 through -3256) comprised of lands located in Maricopa County, Arizona. On July 11,
2017, the QCID Board of Directors ("Board") passed a resolution adopting the call of election
to fill one (1) vacancy on the Board created by the expiration of the term of Director Steven
Sossaman.
The qualified electors of QCID filed the attached petition nominating Steven Sossaman
for the office of Director of QCID and requesting that his name be placed on the official ballot
for the election to be held on November 14, 2017. Steven Sossaman also filed the attached
nomination paper announcing his candidacy for the office of Director of QCID. QCID has not
received any additional nomination petitions, no other candidates have filed nomination papers
requesting that their names appear on the ballot, and no individual has filed a nomination paper
within the time frame to be an eligible write-in candidate. Therefore, the number of candidates for
the office of Director is equal to the number of vacancies on the Board to be filled at the
election on November 14, 2017. Because Steven Sossaman will be running unopposed for the
office of Director at the election on November 14, 2017, QCID requests that the Board of
Supervisors of Maricopa County approve the cancellation of the election and appoint Steven
Sossaman to the office of Director to fill the vacancy on the Board for a term of three (3) years
beginning on January 1, 2018 pursuant to A.R.S. ยง 16-410(A).

If you need any additional information to process this request, please let us know.
Because QCID will need to continue with ongoing preparations and incur additional expenses to
hold an election, we would appreciate a response to this request at your earliest convenience,
Very truly yours,
Salmon, Lewis & Weldon, P.L.C.
