Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, August 02, 2017, in the Supervisor's Conference Room, 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Denny Barney, Chairman, District 1; Steve Chucri, Vice Chairman, District 2; Bill Gates, District 3 (via phone); Clint Hickman, District 4; Steve Gallardo, District 5. Also present: Fran McCarroll, Clerk of the Board; Amy Goodloe, Minutes Coordinator; and Andrea Cummings, Legal Counsel. OTHER OFFICE - DEPARTMENT 1. APPOINT CITIZENS PANEL REGARDING VACANCY IN LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT 4 Pursuant to ARS 41-1202(B), appoint a Citizens Panel to submit to the Board of Supervisors the names of three qualified electors who are members of the Democratic party and residents of Legislative District 4 in Maricopa County to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of State Representative Jesus Rubalcava. Also designate one of the members as the Chairman of the Citizens Panel. Supervisor Gallardo stated effort was made to minimize politics in the process of appointing a Citizens Panel and Board members were asked for their input. He wanted to choose from the entire geographic area of the four counties that make up Legislative District 4. The District includes Maricopa, Yuma, Pima and Pinal Counties. The part of Legislative District 4 in Maricopa County covers parts of Districts 4 and 5. Motion was made by Supervisor Gallardo to appoint the following individuals to the Citizens Panel: Lenore Stuart – City of Yuma resident Emma Torres – City of Somerton resident Cathy Hozian – City of Goodyear resident Dr. Shelle Schlosser – City of Goodyear resident Vic Peterson –City of Buckeye resident Cynthia Del Sol –City of Goodyear resident Mike Melton –City of Buckeye resident Supervisor Hickman thanked all the individuals and hoped he could meet them soon. Supervisor Gallardo amended the motion to designate Lenore Stuart as the Chairman of the Citizens Panel.
