APPOINTMENT TO FILL A LEGISLATIVE VACANCY
o Mirrors the process currently used to appoint a person to fill a legislative
vacancy in a district and county with at least thirty elected Precinct
Committeemen, for a district and county with less than thirty.
FOLLOW UP DISEASE TESTING IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
o Expands the statutory definition of public safety employee or volunteer to allow
a health care worker, mental healthcare worker, or authorized visitor in a
correctional facility to request follow up disease testing after an assault.
SB 1308 CLEAN UP
o Clean up to legislation passed last year to streamline the process used to grant
easements and leases of Flood Control District real property.
o Strikes the word “County” twice and replaces it with “District”.
POSTCONVICTION RELIEF PROCEEDINGS COUNSEL APPOINTMENTS
o Allows the Presiding Judge of a county to establish and maintain a list for
qualified counsel to represent capital defendants in postconviction relief
proceedings.
o Gives the Presiding Judge power to appoint counsel for postconviction relief
proceedings.
