Dear Ms. Alecia Jackson,
The Arizona Department of Education, Early Childhood Education Unit is pleased to inform you that
your program has been chosen as a sub-grantee of Arizona’s Preschool Development Grant. This funding
will be available from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018 for you to provide a high-quality preschool
experience within your community. If you wish to decline this funding opportunity, please contact our
office immediately.
Your LEA Authorized Representative must submit your application to ADE by September 31,
2017. In an effort to provide high-quality experiences during fiscal year 2018, all purchasing and ordering
of classroom materials, supplies and furniture must be purchased before December 30, 2017.
Failure to comply with any requirement, whether deliberate, will be treated as serious misconduct and it
will result in the immediate termination of this award. This includes Quality First disenrollment for any
reason, or failure to meet State or Tribal licensing requirements.
Listed below you will see the number of slots funded. Also listed below are additional funds awarded to
your program for professional development. Per the PDG terms and conditions, at least one representative
from each PDG sub-grantee is required to attend the conferences, summits, or institutes hosted by ADE
ECE. These funds are to be allocated and used only for these PD opportunities as specified below. Any
unspent funds will need to be returned to ADE ECE.
If you have any questions, please contact your assigned regional Early Childhood Program Specialist:

As a reminder, part-day slots may be used only to combine with another approved funding stream to
extend a child’s day to at least 6 hours of high-quality preschool programming. Also, while there is a
requirement for sub-grantees to serve no less than 2 students with identified special needs for every 20
students, sub-grantees may not “hold” spots for students with IEPs; the number of children actually
being served in slots determines a program’s funding level. More information may be found in the
Preschool Development Grant Guidance Manual.
As the levels of early childhood education quality increases across the State of Arizona - it is important to
remember that this grant program is a competitive process. As additional programs achieve higher levels
of quality and therefore become eligible to participate in the scholarship program, the number of
scholarships available per sub-grantee may decrease. One of the considerations made during the re-award
process will be the results from on-site compliance monitoring conducted for year 2 sub-grantees. Based
on those findings, conditions for an award may be requested by ADE/ ECE and will determine
participation in year 3. It is imperative that programs remain diligent in their efforts to consider maintain
funding, consider other funding streams and continue to braid or blend funds.

I appreciate your hard work and dedication to educating the children of Arizona. I wish you a productive
and successful program year and look forward to working with you in the coming months.
Sincerely,
Nicol Russell
