Van Buren Street Avondale, AZ 85323 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in the Southwest Regional Court Center, 10420 W. Van Buren Street, Avondale, AZ 85323, with the following members present: Denny Barney, Chairman, District 1; Steve Chucri, Vice Chairman, District 2; Clint Hickman, District 4; Steve Gallardo, District 5. Absent: Bill Gates, District 3. Also present: Debra Schaffer, Deputy Clerk of the Board, Joy Rich, County Manager, and Michelle Wood. Minutes compiled by Maria Ceaglske, Minutes Coordinator. OTHER OFFICE - DEPARTMENT 1. SOUTHWEST REGIONAL COURT CENTER GRAND OPENING Southwest Regional Court Center Grand Opening Ceremony. (C-06-17-338-7-00) Fields Moseley, Communications Director, welcomed everyone and thanked the Veterans of Foreign War Post 6310 members for the Posting of the Colors and Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise for leading the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Chairman Barney expressed the Board’s appreciation for all involved in the project that was designed and built for the ages. He mentioned that the building integrates four Justice Courts and provides immediate value and service to the public. Supervisor Gallardo thanked all the County staff who worked to finish the project on time and under budget. Supervisor Hickman recognized Supervisor Gates and Supervisor Chucri as well as previous Board members Marie Lopez Rogers, Mary Rose Wilcox and Andy Kunasek for their support of the project. Judge Janet Barton thanked the Board for their effort in prioritizing access to justice. Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, February 15, 2017 Page 2 of 2 Presiding Justice of Peace Judge Steven McMurray recognized the judges present and stated the building would be operational the week of February 21, 2017. He recounted how the original plans were redesigned and resulted in a 25% reduction in the project budget. Chairman Barney recognized the Elected Officials present: Michael Jeanes, Clerk of the Court; Adrian Fontes, Recorder; as well as several Judges and Constables. Mr. Moseley concluded the ceremony by recognizing the project architect, Architekton and builder, D L Withers Construction. Ribbon cutting, photos and tours of the new facility were conducted.
