Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 04, 2017, in the Sullivan Conference Room, 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Denny Barney, Chairman, District 1; Steve Chucri, Vice Chairman, District 2; Bill Gates, District 3; Clint Hickman, District 4; Steve Gallardo, District 5. Also present: Fran McCarroll, Clerk of the Board; Maria Ceaglske, Minutes Coordinator; Joy Rich, County Manager; and Michelle Wood, Legal Counsel. 1. EXECUTIVE SESSION Vote to convene in Executive Session to consider the items on the Special Executive Agenda dated January 04, 2017, for Board of Supervisors and relevant Special Districts pursuant to the statutory authority listed for each item. Motion to approve by Supervisor Hickman, seconded by Supervisor Gallardo Ayes: Barney, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo RECONVENE After discussion on the Executive Session items, Chairman Barney reconvened Open Session. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OPEN SESSION 2. CHIEF DEPUTY ASSESSOR SALARY Pursuant to ARS § 11-419(C) approve the Market Range for Chief Deputy Assessor and the salary for the Chief Deputy Assessor as discussed in Executive Session. (C-31-17-015-6- 00) No action was taken on this item. 3. CHIEF DEPUTY RECORDER APPOINTMENT Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, January 04, 2017 Page 2 of 4 Pursuant to ARS §11-409 and ARS § 11-419(C) approve the appointment of the Chief Deputy Recorder, the Market Range for Chief Deputy Recorder and the salary for the appointee as discussed in Executive Session. (C-31-17-014-9-00) Motion to approve the appointment of Keely Varvel as the Chief Deputy for the newly elected Recorder, Adrian Fontes. The new salary range for this position shall be from: $53.26 to $78.69, and setting Ms. Varvel's salary at: $74.52 per hour by Supervisor Hickman, seconded by Supervisor Gallardo Ayes: Barney, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo 4. CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF APPOINTMENT Pursuant to ARS §11-409 and ARS § 11-419(C) approve the appointment of the Chief Deputy Sheriff, the Market Range for Chief Deputy Sheriff and the salary for the appointee as discussed in Executive Session. (C-31-17-013-9-00) Motion to approve the appointment of Ben Henry as the Chief Deputy for the newly elected Sheriff, Paul Penzone. The new salary range for this position shall be from: $66.84 to $102.19, and setting Mr. Henry's salary at: $81.74 per hour by Supervisor Hickman, seconded by Supervisor Gallardo Ayes: Barney, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo 5. CHIEF DEPUTY TREASURER APPOINTMENT Pursuant to ARS §11-409 and ARS § 11-419(C) approve the appointment of the Chief Deputy Treasurer, the Market Range for Chief Deputy Treasurer and the salary for the appointee as discussed in Executive Session. (C-31-17-016-9-00) No action was taken on this item. 6. CHRISTINE JONES, ET AL. V. MICHELE REAGAN, ET AL., CV2016-14708 Take action consistent with direction given in Executive Session regarding Christine Jones, et al. v. Michele Reagan, et al., CV2016-014708. This item was discussed in Executive Session on January 4, 2017. (C-06-17-262-S-00) No action was taken on this item. 7. ALP GOKSOY V SHERIFF JOSEPH M. ARPAIO AND M. LEWIS NO. CV-14-01096-PHX- HRH (D.ARIZ.) Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, January 04, 2017 Page 3 of 4 Take action consistent with direction given in Executive Session regarding Alp Goksoy v Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio and M. Lewis No. CV-14-01096-PHX-HRH (D.Ariz.). This item was discussed in executive session on January 4, 2017. (C-75-17-003-2-00) Motion to approve settlement in the amount of $225,000 in the case of Alp Goksoy v Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio and M. Lewis No. CV-14-01096-PHX-HRH (D.Ariz.) and authorize the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors to sign any necessary settlement documents on behalf of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors upon review and approval as to form by assigned legal counsel by Supervisor Chucri, seconded by Supervisor Bill Gates Ayes: Barney, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo 8.
