Judge Mark Anderson West Mesa Justice Court 2050 W. University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85201 Supervisor Denny Barney 301 W. Jefferson St. #10 Phoenix AZ 85003 10/13/16 Dear Supervisor Barney, I am writing to inform you of my decision to retire from my position as Justice of the Peace for the West Mesa Justice Court effective January 1, 2017. It has been a very positive experience serving the citizens of West Mesa in this capacity, and I am deeply appreciative of all the support given to me and our court by you and the County Supervisors. When I first was elected and took the seat, there was a huge backlog of old DUI jury trial cases. Within 6 months, the backlog was gone and now we keep the stream of DUI cases under control with our fast-track system. Additionally, the morale of the staff was not conducive to a healthy work environment. Now, the staff is well-trained and the morale is very good and our court regularly receives compliments from practitioners and customers. Finally, I was able to shepherd legislation through the process to update the Title 22 statutes to reflect the modern reality of the Justice Courts and to bring us into compliance with the statutes. I feel that the court is well-run and I am ready for new challenges. I have started a non-profit mentoring organization which will be requiring more of a time commitment from me. I also plan to do some writing and continue doing overseas service projects. I will be available to help train whoever is selected to be my replacement. Thank you for your kind consideration and best wishes to you and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors! ‘9.4 Mark Anderson West Mesa Justice of the Peace
