Subject: Official Complaint Regarding Dillon Aero Zoning Case 10‐5‐16
Dear Maricopa County Planning Department:
Dillon Aero is attempting to zone a ammunition test site in the area of Mobile Arizona. I have serious concerns
regarding this case.
There are 5 property owners who own land inside of what we consider a normal safety zone. This morning I called
Supervisor Gallardos office as well as Fran to voice concerns that nobody from Dillon Aero or their representatives have
reached out to any of the landowners. At the P&Z hearing we heard Dillon representatives state that all landowners had
been spoken to. After the meeting, we realized that the only landowners that had spoken to Dillon or their
representatives were those of us who called them. None of us had received calls from Dillon Aero or reps.
Dillon Aero stated that if anyone is on 99th Avenue that they have to shut down operations until all traffic is clear. 99th
Avenue cuts right through the middle of our property so essentially, Dillon is being zoned for a land use that renders our
land completely useless and without value? How can we use or sell our land with helicopters shooting machine guns
next door? This feels a little like a taking as our property will be rendered useless being less than a thousand yards from
the Dillon Range.
With these safety issues in play somebody from Dillon should have reached out to our ownership group to discuss
mitigation of these real concerns. I did receive a call today after complaining to the County, but it seems like a little to
late to effectuate change. Apparently Dillon is offering to set up a conference call this Friday. This call today was their
first contact with me.
I should not be asked to vacate my property whenever Dillon decides to use the range. That is an infringement of my
landowner rights that is unacceptable.
Another concern is that the 3 year study going on right now to select corridors for the future I‐11 are currently going
on. In the area of this facility, they really have 3 choices. 1) go around this area by heading all the way around Gila
1

Bend. 2) go 4‐5 miles East of this area and cut through about 2 miles of the Vekol Wash, or 3) Go down 99th Avenue
which has been the route of choice for decades. Prior to giving permanent zoning for this type of use it seems
reasonable to ask that some coordination occur with the AZDOT group engaging in this study. Because of the Sonoran
Desert National Monument, the options are very limited through this corridor.
Thank you for your consideration.
