The Heard Museum's Free Admissions Program ensures that schools, especially Title One schools, are able to provide students a culturally enriching learning experience beyond what can be found in text books. A visit to the Heard Museum brings to life the uniqueness and importance of Native cultures, and helps children build a deeper understanding and appreciation for people with histories and life-ways other than their own. Without free admissions for students, teachers and chaperones, many schools simply would not be able to provide the cultural enrichment found in the exhibits at the Museum. Teachers can choose among the many galleries and exhibitions when planning their trip. Grade-appropriate tours are recommended or teachers can choose their own agendas. Docent-guided school tours are provided year round, Monday- Friday and self-guided groups are welcome seven days a weeks. Many teachers choose to follow tours of the galleries with a 1 hour Bonus Tour. During the Bonus Tour, students participate in a hands-on art-making activity which reinforces the themes of American Indian culture as seen in the galleries they have just visited. Instruction is provided by one of three American Indian staff members from the education department. Students learn about the materials traditionally used to make the piece of art along with its historical and cultural context. In addition to the free admissions, the Museum makes available additional teaching aides including Traveling Panels Exhibits and a collection of American Indian Art Resource Posters which are kept by teachers and updated annually with new posters - all free of charge. Beginning Date of Project: September 1, 2015 End Date of Project: June 15, 2016 NOTE: The Museum accommodates school tours throughout the year — the project dates are when the funding will be applied. Geographic Area to be served: Typically, school tours originate from school districts throughout Maricopa County with the majority coming from cities in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. ** Attach Detailed Budget** Amount of Total Project The free admissions for students, teachers, and chaperones represents $88,000 of the annual budget of over $200,000 for the complete Youth Education and Free Admissions Program Amount of 12% Request: $50,000 If the Amount of funding received is less than the amount needed for the project, do you have other funds to complete the project?
