Dear Taxpayer:
This is in response to your Dec. 18, 2013, request for information
regarding your tax-exempt status. You have represented that you are
a chapter, branch or auxiliary of the American National Red Cross.
Our records indicate that in December 1938, the American National Red
Cross was held to be exempt from Federal income tax under section
101(6) of the Internal Revenue Act of 1938, which now corresponds to
section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In a subsequent
determination, the American Red Cross was classified as a publicly
supported organization described in sections 509(a)(1) and
170(b)C1)(a)(vi) of the Code.
Even though the American National Red Cross was issued an individual
ruling, this ruling covers its chapters, branches, and auxiliaries.
Donors may deduct contributions to you as provided in section 170 of
the Code. Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers, or gifts to them
or for their use are deductible for Federal estate and gift tax
purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of sections 2055,
2106, and 2522 of the Code.
If you have any questions, please call us at the telephone number
shown in the heading of this letter.
Sincerely yours,
Kim D. Bailey

Project Name: American Red Cross Local Disaster Relief
In 200 words or less, please provide a brief description of the project submitted to the
12% SRPIVIIC Grant program.
From home fires to monsoons to wildfires, disasters hurt; the Red Cross helps. Disaster Relief includes
two critical/complementary components. Response designates our efficient, compassionate direct service
program to assess needs and provide immediate emergency assistance: food, clothing, shelter. Volunteers
respond on the scene 24/7/365. Caseworkers follow up to help the family that has lost their infant's crib in
a fire, or the first-grader whose school uniform is destroyed. Nurses assist the physically-challenged
disaster victim with new crutches or the diabetes patient with medication. Caseworkers provide emotional
support, financial assistance for a security deposit or first month's rent, and cover limited expenses for
clients dealing with the emotional devastation of their disaster.
Your Red Cross is committed to increasing Preparedness, building community resilience and prevention
awareness. Before the first emergency shelter is opened, the first volunteer deployed, or the first meal
served, we must have the proper supplies and systems in place to be ready to respond any time or
anywhere.
The American Red Cross makes a simple promise — to be there to answer the call. We are deeply
appreciative of our partnership with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and respectfully
request that you consider this application for renewed funding.
