Dear TAXPAYER:
This is in response to your Jan. 31, 2012, request for information
regarding your tax-exempt status.
Our records indicate that you were recognized as exempt under
section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in a determination
letter issued in JANUARY 1936.
Our records also indicate that you are not a private foundation within
the meaning of section 509(a) of the Code because you are described in
section(s) 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).
Donors may deduct contributions to you as provided in section 170 of
the Code. Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers, or gifts to you or
for your use are deductible for Federal estate and gift tax purposes
if they meet the applicable provisions of sections 2055, 2106, and
2522 of the Code.
Please refer to our website www.irs.gov/eo for information regarding
filing requirements. Specifically, section 6033(j) of the Code
provides that failure to file an annual information return for three
consecutive years results in revocation of tax-exempt status as of
the filing due date of the third return for organizations required to
file. We will publish a list of organizations whose tax-exempt
status was revoked under section 6033(j) of the Code on our website
beginning in early 2011.

Project Name: Free Admissions Program-School Tours for Students
In 200 words or less, please provide a brief description of the project submitted to the
12% SRPMIC Grant program.
The Heard Museum is requesting $65,000 from the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community
which will be used to provide free admissions to the Museum for area elementary and high school
students. In our most recent fiscal year approximately 9,000 students will visit the Museum as part of
school tours. Without free admission, many of the schools would not be able to provide the cultural
enrichment found in the exhibits at the Museum, nor would a new generation of children learn the
wonder of, and respect for, Native people and your cultural heritage. These first hand experiences
inspire a new understanding and impart a factual history not otherwise available in most textbooks or
media. As often as possible, the tours are led by our American Indian Youth Guides.

As part of the students' trip to the Museum, most schools like to include our Bonus Tours for an
interactive activity creating art. After their tour of our galleries, students complete a take home project
that directly relates to the tour. This is a fun and educational way to create a lasting memory of the
Heard Museum. Funding from Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community will also help underwrite
this element of the tours.
Beginning Date of Project: 01/01/15 End Date of Project: 12/31/15
Funding will be used for field trips scheduled during the remainder of the current school year and
September-December next fall.
Geographic Area to be served: Primarily, but not limited to, Maricopa County
** Attach Detailed Budget**
Amount of Total Project: $75,000
Amount of 12% Request: $65,000 (No Multi-Year Request will be accepted)
If the Amount of funding received is less than the amount needed for the project, do you have other
funds to complete the project? (Please Explain): The Heard Museum will use internal funds to
continue to fully meet the demand for school tours. General operating grants have been given by the
Arizona Commission for the Arts and the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture.
