Dear Jerry:
Re: Request for Increase in Services/Contract Amendment
As you are aware, the Town has been working with Captain Randy Brice on developing a new level of service
for our law enforcement services in Queen Creek. This new program has gone through several meetings,
including our Council Budget Committee and now the Queen Creek Town Council with the adoption of the
FY14/15 Budget at their meeting last evening. This letter is sent as a formal request, following the Town
Council’s approval on June 4, of the increased law enforcement services for the town next fiscal year. We
understand that with this new level of service, including restoring the fifth beat as a fundamental component
will require several months to transition, but we also understand that certain staffing can be initiated
relatively quickly. In any event, again, with the Council’s approval of the FY14/15 Budget, which commences
July 1, 2014, this letter serves as our official notice of request for those services. For your recollection, I have
outlined below the new services the Council approved over and above our existing contract with the Maricopa
County Sheriff’s Office.
1. Fifth Patrol Beat (5 deputies)
2. One (1) Sergeant/Supervisor
3. Two (2) Community Services Deputies
4. One (1) Detective
5. One (1) Crime Analyst
6. One (1) Administrative Assistant
We also understand there are corresponding capital costs which we will also fund, including but not limited to
three (3) fully equipped Sport Utility Vehicles, three (3) unmarked detective vehicles, mobile radios, mobile
data computers, portable radios, Tasers, laptops, patrol weapons, bullet proof vests, cell phones and new
equipment items for our wash patrols, two fully equipped all-terrain vehicles.

Pg. 2, Re: Request for Increase in Services/Contract Amendment
Joe LaFortune, Emergency Management Coordinator, will work with Captain Brice and whomever else in your
office on the contract details and amendments. Please advise on a final schedule for our consideration of the
contract amendment and when we can expect the various new staff to be assigned.
Lastly, I also wanted to make you aware, that we are moving forward on interim substation improvements as
well as long-term facility needs with next year’s budget as well.
As always, we appreciate your commitment to the Town and look forward to a continued long-term
relationship.
Sincerely,
John Kross
Town Manager
