Description:
This item proposes to change the existing alias Airport Road (211th Avenue) to Verrado Way.
The change will affect parcels directly south of Interstate 10 south to Beloat Road. A portion of
the affected area from I-10 south to Yuma Road falls within the jurisdiction of the Town of
Buckeye. As such, the Town Council has approved the change to Verrado Way within their
jurisdiction. North of I-10, Verrado Way is part of the master-planned community of Verrado.
Affected sections include; Sections 1, 13, 24, 25 & 36 of T1N, R3W; and Sections 6, 18, 19, 30 &
31 of T1N, R2W; and Sections 6 & 7 of T1S, R3W; and Sections 1 & 12 of T1S R2W
Evaluation:
The naming of streets provides for continuity essential for accurate addressing. In addition, this
effort is intended to provide efficient emergency services for the safety of the residents of the
Maricopa County and the Town of Buckeye. Verrado Way is being offered for your
consideration as the new name for this 5.8 mile segment of Airport Road. A map of all affect
parcels has been attached for your review.
Notification was sent to the property owners of record of the 58 affected parcels on August 28,
2013 by Town staff. Of those parcels, ten (10) are located within the Town’s jurisdiction. Upon
approval by the BOS, address changes to the remaining 48 parcels will be made as quickly as
possible following the normal change of address procedures. Approval of this item will provide
consistency along this roadway through the Town and County.
The proposed street name was routed to MCDOT, 911, MCSO, APS, SRP, USPS, Buckeye USPS,
Buckeye Fire Department, Buckeye Valley Fire District, and the Maricopa County Emergency
Management Department. There are no known objections.

Additional consideration:
Chapter 7 of the Maricopa County Addressing Regulations, Section 701.2 Restrictions states:
F.) Changes to street names or new street names must apply to the entire length of an alignment when
no alias exists or to the entire length of an existing alias. The only exceptions to be granted to this are
the exception to cities to create a new alias segment within their entire jurisdiction or adoption of a
Development Master Plan Street Name Plan.
Airport Road is the alias to 211th Ave therefore changing the alias for the subject segment should be
considered for changing the street name to the entire alignment within the jurisdiction of the Town
and within unincorporated Maricopa County. The Rainbow Valley community is located within
unincorporated Maricopa County, but is physically separated from the remainder of this road
alignment by the Gila River.
Although not part of today’s request, in an effort to service the residents and property owners within
the Rainbow Valley community, staff recommends an additional review to consider changing the name
of the southern portion of the Airport Road alignment; Beloat Road south to Ray Road; to Verrado Way
or 211th Avenue. These segments are physically separated and will remain so into the foreseeable
future. Neither segment provides access to an airport, thus the Airport Road street name is antiquated.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of the proposed street name change from Airport Road to Verrado Way for
that segment of the alignment between I-10 and Beloat Road.
