August 27, 2013 Heard Museum Eric S. Trevan 2301 North Central Ave. Phoenix, Arizona 85014 Dear Mr. Trevan: On behalf of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) I am pleased to inform you that we have chosen to fund your organizations proposal in the amount of $35,000.00 through the 12% gaming contribution program. It has been a pleasure to work with you through the application process and we look forward to hearing of the progress of your program. In the coming weeks the SRPMIC will be working with the appropriate pass through agency to process the grant award. We will be communicating with you to provide further detail of the award and the activities to follow. Sincerely, Wvi old Angela Salazar-Willeford Intergovernmental Relations Project Manager hin Heard Museum Native Cultures & Art June 12, 2013 Gary Bohnee Acting Special Assistant, Congressional & Legislative Affairs Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community 10005 East Osborn Road Scottsdale, AZ 85256 Dear Mr, Bohnee, The Heard Museum is honored and pleased to have your invitation to submit a request for $65,000 to the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, which will be used to provide free admissions to the Museum for area elementary and high school students. Per your request, we have reduced our ask by $10,000 from the previous year in good faith to continue our long standing partnership. In our most recent year over 9,000 students visited the Museum as part of school tours. Without free admission, many of the schools would not be able to provide the art and cultural enrichment found in the exhibits at the Museum, nor would a new generation of children learn the wonder of, and respect for, Native people and your cultural heritage. The Heard strives to present engaging and truthful programming which enhances the students' learning experiences. These first hand experiences inspire a new understanding and impart a factual history not otherwise available in most textbooks or media. As often as possible, the tours are led by our American Indian Youth Guides. As part of the students' trip to the Museum, most schools like to include our Bonus Tours for an interactive activity creating art. After their tour of our galleries, students go to the Dorrance Education Center with our Education staff, each of which is American Indian, and complete a take home project that directly relates to the tour. This is a fun and educational way to create a lasting memory of the Heard Museum. The Museum asks for a $5 fee for each student participating in the Bonus Tour as a means of covering the costs of the materials used in the project. Unfortunately, many schools, especially those that are Title One, are unable to cover the cost, The Museum offers a reduced fee of $2 to those schools. Funding from Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community will also help underwrite that discount, and help ensure that arts supplies and materials are available. 2301 North Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004 I 602.252.8840 tel I 602.252.9757 fax I heard.org The Museum is proud to continue our tradition of providing free access to the museum for all Native Americans and their children, and is happy to have schools from local reservations also take advantage of the free admission program. Salt River Elementary School has already called about scheduling a tour again this school year. We are grateful for the long relationship we have forged with your Tribe, and are especially appreciative of the generous funding received in the past. Your renewed funding will continue to allow area-wide school children access to our institution and the culturally-enriching Bonus Tour afterwards. Acknowledgement of your Tribal Nation and support is on our web site, and we would be happy to add acknowledgements to our publications and social media sites if desired. Once again, please accept our sincere appreciation for this opportunity of submitting our request for funding. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 602-251-0251.
