Project Name: D-backs Race Against Cancer
In 200 words or less, please provide a brief description of the project submitted to the
12% SRPMIC Grant program.
The D-backs Race Against Cancer enters its second year as one of Arizona's premier charitable
races.
In 2013, runners and walkers from across Arizona joined D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall
alongside D-backs players and coaches in the fight against cancer. Cancer survivors, along with the
family and friends of those battling the disease, took to the streets in D-backs gear survivor hats all
racing to receive the unique commemorative finisher medal.
In 2014, an expected 5,000 runners and 1,500 Family Fun walk participants are expected to take
place in the February event. Fans are already asking to sign up for the popular event for 2014.
The D-backs Race Against Cancer takes place in the newly energized Downtown Phoenix Legends
Entertainment District, with the race both beginning and ending at Chase Field. Our projected
charitable revenues will exceed $300,000 in 2014.

All of the proceeds will benefit important programs that provide research, screenings, support and
services for those dealing with cancer and its effects. All of the funds stay in Arizona with priority
given to non-profit organizations that serve the uninsured, underinsured and/or children.
