Maricopa County County Administrative Office 301 West Jefferson Street September 25, 2013 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003- The Honorable Jan Brewer 2143 Governor of Arizona www.maricopa.gov 1700 W. Washington Phoenix, AZ 85007 Dear Governor Brewer: Maricopa County, excluding the City of Phoenix, has been the designated Local Workforce Investment Area since the initiation of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA), Public Law 15-220. Prior to that date, Maricopa County was the designated Service Delivery Area under the Job Training Partnership Act. As a result of these designations, Maricopa County is responsible for increasing the employment, retention, and earnings of Maricopa County residents through activities designed to improve the skill sets of the workforce. The County’s efforts have assisted in the reduction of welfare dependency and the enhancement of productivity and economic competitiveness within the regional area. Maricopa County continues to explore ways to improve the economic stability of the region by working with public and private partners to meet the needs of local employers and provide training in growing industry clusters. Pursuant to these objectives, we are pleased to submit for acceptance an amendment to the existing Two-Year Plan approved by the Maricopa Workforce Connections Board and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for the period July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. A new plan will be created and submitted for approval in 2014. We welcome the opportunity to continue our work with the Workforce Arizona Council. We appreciate your support of our efforts and partnership. Sincerely, Andrew Kunasek Chair, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Cc: Mr. Sherman A. Jennings Chair, Governor’s Workforce Arizona Council
