In 200 words or less, please provide a brief description of the project submitted to the
12% SRPMIC Grant program.
Thanks to the prior generous support of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to help fund
TGen's Next Generation Sequencing capabilities and other genomic research technologies, TGen is now
able to examine the molecular mechanism underpinning the basis of rare and devastating diseases and
disorders in a way that has never before been possible.
TGen is committed to developing, refining, and applying the latest tools of genomic medicine to the
diagnosis and treatment of patients. We use the most advanced technology and analytical approaches to
identify specific changes in a person's DNA. By understanding how those changes lead to disease, we can
begin the search for treatments and therapies tailored to each patient. Additionally, our methods allow us
to reach beyond the sequencing of a genome to include the measurement of other biomolecules, such as
proteins. Our laboratories then work side-by-side with the patients' doctors to search for treatment options
that work.
Until now, many diseases have gone undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years, leaving patients and their
families to suffer needlessly. In conjunction with our clinical partners, TGen now has the ability to
accurately diagnose such diseases and disorders, bringing hope to patients throughout Arizona and around
the world.

Funding for project/programs may be based on available funding. As such, if funding were not
available for the full the amount of request how would you prioritize funding.
The program is scalable, and the funding would be used to sequence the genomes of as many patients as
possible.
