Discussion
2. Initiative Workgroups Presentation
 Board Vice-Chair Richard Feely shared the plan that the governance subcommittee
developed for the implementation of the strategic workgroups:
o No more than six board members will be on a workgroup or at a workgroup
meeting. Workgroups develop a plan, but the entire board agrees and
executes the plan. Workgroups are encouraged to develop their own KPIs.
Quarterly, workgroups will update the spreadsheet on LiveBinder and
present updates to the board.
o Workgroups will be led by the following board and staff members:
 Fundraising strategy – Board Treasurer Gregory Herriman, Museum
Manager Jody Crago
 Museum advocacy – Board Chair Barbara Meyerson, Museum
Operations Manager Peter Bugg
 Marketing strategy – Board Member Jacki Ryan, Museum Program
Associate – Marketing Kiersten Edgett
 Tumbleweed Ranch – Mr. Feely, Mr. Crago
o The schedule for workgroup presentations is as follows:
 Fundraising strategy – January, April, August, October
 Museum advocacy – February, May, November
 Marketing strategy – March, June, September, December
 Tumbleweed Ranch – June, December (Governance Subcommittee)
 Mrs. Ryan suggested that each workgroup should have actionable goals that are
measurable.
 Board Member Chris McMullan suggested that the Tumbleweed Ranch meetings and
reports should happen more than twice a year.
 Mr. Sepulveda suggested that the Museum has political support from City Council and
that support will be crucial for the future of Tumbleweed Ranch.

 The board discussed that the Tumbleweed Ranch workgroup would provide tasks and
requests to the other workgroups.
 Mr. Crago shared that the board does not fundraise for operations or develop
programming as there is a staff member assigned to that responsibility. The board
can fundraise for expansions to current Museum activities.
 The board discussed wanting to be involved in the development of the vision for
Tumbleweed Ranch.
 If workgroups would like to meet in the Saguaro Room at the Museum, they can
schedule that time with Mr. Bugg. The classroom at the Vision Gallery and Microsoft
Teams are also available options.
 The board member team lead will schedule workgroup meetings.
 Mr. Crago reviewed the LiveBinder site. When board members would like to update
the spreadsheet, they are to send it to the staff lead to have it uploaded.
3. Discuss 2027 Meeting Schedules for Full Board and Subcommittees
 Mr. Crago shared that the subcommittee meeting times are moving to Tuesdays at
the same times as their current meeting times. For example, the executive
subcommittee meeting time will be moved to Tuesdays at 2 pm.
 The 2027 board meeting schedule will be on the action agenda at the next board
meeting.
4. Board Chair’s Report
 An article was published about Board Member Shatavia Elder starting a new position
at Arizona PBS. The article was passed around the room.
 On Friday, Mrs. Meyerson and Mrs. Elder will have a call with Keen Independent
Research regarding the Arts and Culture Master Plan. Mrs. Meyerson will suggest
creating a comprehensive list of cultural resources in Chandler. If board members
have items that they would like to have mentioned, Mrs. Meyerson asked the board
members to reach out to her.
5. Museum Manager’s Report
 Radio that Rocked the Valley closed last weekend, and all artifacts have been removed.
 The next exhibition Ocatilla: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Lost Desert Masterpiece will open on
October 27. It is a collaboration with OA+D, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and
Taliesin West. It is a precursor to the signature exhibition on Frank Lloyd Wright that
will happen in a couple of years. For the exhibition, an Ocatilla cabin is being rebuilt
with assistance from OA+D and Taliesin West. Frank Lloyd Wright related items and
an exhibition catalog will be available in the Museum store.
o There is a kickoff Media Day planned.

position.

position have been completed. An individual was selected and an offer was
made.
