SUMMARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Buckeye’s Strategic Plan provides the framework for turning Council direction, community
feedback, and organizational resources into meaningful action. City Council and staff have developed a
comprehensive update to the Plan that will be considered for adoption. The Plan will be used to guide
resource decisions, promote strategic conversations, and provide transparent communication on
progress toward the initiatives and objects of the City.
The City's Strategic Plan was originally adopted in 2022 and is amended each year to ensure the City's
strategic focus remains a priority. To better align with the timing of the annual budget process and to
allow for a more comprehensive update of the Plan's structure and content, approximately a year and a
half has passed since the last update. After receiving survey and interview feedback, a facilitated council
retreat was held where the City Council and staff came together to review and discuss updates to the
current strategic plan. After receiving feedback and direction at that retreat, staff completed the update to
the five Focus Areas and presented a draft plan to Council at a work session in July. With additional
feedback from that work session, the Initiatives, Objectives, and Key Performance Indicators have been
finalized for adoption. The City's Strategic Plan will continue to be a living document that will be updated
with changing conditions and priorities of the City.
BENEFITS:
The City's Strategic Plan provides clear City Council direction to staff regarding the priorities for the City.
The Plan also serves as an important means of communicating priorities, setting timelines, and
measuring success for the residents of Buckeye.
FUTURE ACTION:
The City's Strategic Plan will immediately be used to guide resource decisions for the upcoming fiscal
year 2028 budget process. The Plan will continually be updated to reflect the priorities and direction of
the City.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
There is no direct financial impact for this item, however, it will guide the annual budget process and the
Capital Improvement Program.
