MARICOPA COUNTY ELECTION SUPPORT CIVIC DUTY LEAVE Board of Supervisors’ Approval Date: 05/06/2026 Agenda Number: C-31-26-034-X-00 CIVIC DUTY LEAVE For even-year Primary and General Elections and Presidential Preference Elections. • Training and setup for election day that interferes with employees’ normal working hours. • Monday before Election Day: Election work that interferes with employees’ normal working hours. • Tuesday - Election Day: Election work that interferes with employees’ normal working hours. • Wednesday after Election Day: With supervisors’ approval, employees who support elections on Tuesday night and end: o Before midnight are eligible to take a half day on Wednesday as Civic Duty Leave. o After midnight are eligible to take a whole day on Wednesday as Civic Duty Leave. • Friday before Election Day to Tuesday – Election Day (IT Only): For IT staff who assist with voting location technology setups and support. • Friday before Election Day to Wednesday after Election Day (Drivers Only): For drivers who assist with packing, loading, and driving delivery trucks to and from vote centers. Civic Duty Leave allows County Employees to support County Elections and replaces the regular work hours they miss when they work an election (making them whole and not paying them above their standard hours). This helps Elections staff for critical, large elections. Using County employees provides consistency and reliability.
