REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Item: 7A4
ACTION:  Authorize the City’s Government Relations Director or designee to take actions on the City’s 
Federal and State Policy Principles before state and federal legislative and executive branch officials, in 
addition to working with the Federal and State Advocacy Review Council Subcommittee to update the 
City’s Policy Principles for future years.
FISCAL IMPACT:  No fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:  Approve authorization.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  Each fall, the Tempe City Council meets to determine the City’s 
overall policy principles at the federal and state levels. Council discussed these principles at the October 
23, 2025, Work Study Session. The policy principles guide the City’s Government Relations Director in 
determining what positions to take on behalf of the City of Tempe on state and federal legislation and 
regulations impacting the City. Staff are requesting authorization from Council for the Government 
Relations Director or designee to take positions on these matters based on the City’s Policy Principles.
