ACTION: Approve a two-year contract renewal with Itron, Inc. for the maintenance and support of the 
City’s automated water meter infrastructure system.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total contract cost will not exceed $262,000. Sufficient funds have been 
appropriated in the Water and Wastewater Fund, Cost Center 1841 (Finance: Customer Services) and 
the Water and Wastewater Capital Improvement Program, Project 3209319 (Meter Replacement 
Program) for anticipated expenditures during the current fiscal year and future fiscal years, contingent 
upon City Council approval of the City’s annual budget.   
RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the contract renewal.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: (IT16-034-01) On June 23, 2016, City Council awarded a four-
year contract with five, two-year renewal options to Itron, Inc. for the purchase, installation and 
maintenance of an automated water meter infrastructure (AMI) system. Although the system’s 
deployment was accomplished years ago, this renewal period ensures the ongoing maintenance and 
support of the installed AMI system. This support includes the replacement of broken or stolen encoders 
(hardware), etc. If approved, this will be the third of five, two-year renewal options.
