REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Approve the utilization of a one-year State of Arizona contract with Titan Power for the 
purchase of uninterrupted power supply equipment, service, maintenance, and support utilized 
throughout the City.
FISCAL IMPACT:  The total cost of this contract shall not exceed $375,000. Sufficient funds have 
been appropriated in the General Fund, Cost Centers 1971 (IT - Administration) and Capital 
Improvement Program (CIP), Project 6710569 (Network Infrastructure Refresh), for anticipated 
expenditures during the current fiscal year and next fiscal year, contingent upon City Council approval 
of the City’s annual budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the utilization of the contract.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  (CTR063424) The State of Arizona competitively solicited and 
subsequently awarded a contract to Titan Power for the purchase of uninterrupted power supply 
equipment, service, maintenance, and support. The contract contains cooperative language allowing its 
use by other governmental agencies.
An uninterrupted power supply (UPS) is a device that sits between a power source, such as a wall outlet, 
and a device or series of devices. The UPS acts as a failsafe, protecting the City’s data center and other 
facilities that house mission-critical servers, data, and telecommunication systems. It provides temporary 
power in the event of a utility power loss, allowing servers and data systems to shut down properly or 
backup generators to start up. Without UPS protection, a failure of the utility power source would result 
in the immediate shutdown of all mission-critical servers, data, and telecommunication systems. 
Uninterruptible power systems are critical components of the City’s technology infrastructure and are 
highly complex units that require ongoing maintenance and service plans.
