REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign Amendment Two to an Intergovernmental 
Agreement with the State of Arizona for the Broadway Curve Project modifying the City’s maintenance 
responsibilities for the two pedestrian bridges at Alameda Drive and at the Western Canal. (Resolution 
No. R2026.06)
FISCAL IMPACT:  None
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2026.06.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  The State designed and constructed improvements on Interstate 
10 (I-10), from Interstate 17 (I-17) to State Route 202 Loop (SR 202L), (the “Broadway Curve Project”). 
As part of the Broadway Curve Project, the State designed and constructed two pedestrian bridges, one 
at Alameda Drive, near the Tempe Diablo Stadium, and the other at the Western Canal. Amendment 
Two will replace the original Exhibit A to the IGA with a revised Exhibit A that modifies the City’s 
maintenance responsibilities for the pedestrian bridges and surrounding area – see Exhibit A.   The City 
be responsible for general maintenance like sweeping, painting and cleaning and the State will be 
responsible for the structural integrity of the bridges.
