5) PRESENTATION(S)
5A) Presentation on the forthcoming Downtown Tempe Historic Core Plan. The presenters are Steven Davidovas of
MIG and Corky Poster of PMM.

Steven Davidovas, MIG, and Corky Poster, PMM, gave an overview of the updates that have been made to the
Downtown Tempe Historic Core Plan since it was previously heard by the Commission during the September 9th DRC
Study Session. Mr. Poster stated that they are currently in Phase 2 where they have been conducting community and
stakeholder outreach and gathering feedback. He stated that they have also been developing an existing conditions
analysis, starting to draw the boundary of the Historic Core area, and completed a historic property update. Mr.
Davidovas went over the feedback they have received so far and the next steps in the process.

Mr. Poster went over the plan goals including celebrating history, promoting context-sensitive development, supporting
vibrant mixed-use growth, enhancing economic vitality, and strengthening Downtown Tempe’s identity. He also went
over the Tempe Historic Core inventory matrix of 30 Downtown Tempe properties that gives specific information on the
sites and which historic entities they are registered with.

Commissioner Forte noted that one of the points that was made was that Downtown Tempe does not have a
centralized meeting point. He asked if one of the underutilized spaces shown on the plan area map would be a good
place for that. Mr. Poster stated that they are not there yet but have been told that it is an important item so they will be
paying attention to the comments and information on the ground to determine where the best spaces might be.
Commissioner Forte stated that it be awesome to incorporate that with some of the historic buildings, such as The Mill
and the train depot.
