Agenda Item #7B: Update on the Use of 2024 Bond Funding for Historic Preservation 
Projects
PURPOSE
The Historic Preservation Officer (HPO) will provide an update on 2024 bond funding for historic 
preservation-related projects
BACKGROUND
In November 2024, Tempe voters approved a bond measure that allocated substantial funding 
for historic preservation. The HPO will provide an update on the following Capital Improvements 
Program (CIP) projects that will utilize bond funding:
1. CIP Project #6711549: City-Owned Historic Buildings Deficiencies Correction 

$500,000

Fully allocated with additional funding requested for FY26-27

Corrections of City-owned historic building deficiencies not covered by other City funding
2. CIP Project #6711759: Double Butte Cemetery Restoration 

$900,000

No encumbrances or allocations

Study that will inform restoration work is being finalized)
3. CIP Project #6711589: Eisendrath Adobe Restoration

$600,000

Fully allocated with additional funding requested for FY26-27 to finish restoration of north 
side

Three of four building sides recently restored
4. CIP Project #6711599: Endangered Historic Property Acquisition Fund

$3,550,000

No allocations yet; fully encumbered

Pending rehabilitation of Harry Walker House

Remainder of funding to be used to purchase other TBD properties
5. CIP Project #6711629: Peterson House Deck

$300,000

No allocations yet; fully encumbered

Deck scheduled to be replaced in 2026
6. CIP Project #6311839: Hayden Butte Restoration 

$500,000

No encumbrances or allocations

Pending plans for erosion control and trail restoration

7. CIP Project #6311849: Loma del Rio Restoration

$500,000

No encumbrances or allocations

Pending plans for site restoration and maintenance
Those allocations include funding for restoration of Tempe Butte ($500,000) and Lomo del Rio 
archaeological site ($500,000) as well as restoration of the original “Pioneer” Section of Double 
Butte Cemetery ($900,000 over three years).
