Proclamation Alzheimer's Awareness 2025

PROCLAMATION
ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are an irreversible and progressive
brain disorder that slowly weakens memory, thinking, and skills; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 7.2 million Americans 65 years and older live with Alzheimer’s and
is ranked as the 6th leading cause of death for American’s 65 years and older.
WHEREAS, there are currently 151,500 people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer’s and
1 in 8 people aged 45 and older have subjective cognitive decline in Arizona; and
WHEREAS, only two in five people have talked to a health provider about memory problems
that interfere with day to day activities over the past year; and
WHEREAS, older black/African Americans and Hispanics/Latinos are disproportionately
more likely than older non-Hispanic whites to have Alzheimer’s or other dementias, and 2/3 of
Americans with Alzheimer’s are women; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease has no current cure treatments for symptoms and research
continues today to find better ways to treat the disease, delay its onset, and prevent it from
developing; and
WHEREAS, by learning more about dementia, we can lessen the impact of Alzheimer’s
disease and other dementias; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alexis Hermosillo, Mayor of El Mirage, Arizona do hereby proclaim
November 2025 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and in recognition of this month, the City’s El
Mirage Cares program will host a virtual forum for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness to educate
and empower our community to learn how to support those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms
of dementia, and join in recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness to support the cause that deeply
impacts families in every community across our country.
