WORK SESSION PRESENTATION
 
1.
Review of Gentry Park Master Plan's Project Summary Report presented by Harrington
Planning + Design. (Development Services)
City Engineer Jorge Gastelum introduced Jason Harrington with Harrington Planning + Design. 
Mr. Harrington detailed the progress on the Gentry Park Master Plan and discussed the different
areas of the proposed layout.  Councilmember Shapera asked why there would not be lighting
on the playing field and Mr. Harrington stated generators would be a better option for lighting.  
Councilmember Shapera stated generators are too noisy, and the lighting provides security for
the area.  Mr. Harrington stated the plan can be amended before finalizing.  Councilmember
Shapera asked what the estimated cost of the splash pad would be and Mr. Harrington stated
$150,000.  Councilmember Shapera asked Public Works Director Nick Russo the cost of the
splash pad at Gateway park and Mr. Russo stated he would find the information and let him
know as soon as possible.  Councilmember Shapera stated he is not keen on another dog park,
and he expects illumination throughout the layout.  Councilmember Delgado stated some
items should be moved elsewhere on the layout so that vendors are able to access the field area
for special events.  Mayor Hermosillo stated the coffee yard placement is a concern and that
maybe it should be moved to the area in front of the current court facility.  Mr. Harrington stated
the plan can be amended as needed.  Councilmember Jones stated he agrees with 
Councilmember Shapera in that lighting is necessary for safety reasons and public safety
personnel need to have some sort of service road for access.  Councilmember Jones stated he
does not agree with the dog park being added to the plan and Mr. Harrington stated the area can
be rededicated to another purpose.  Mayor Hermosillo asked if Council preferred construction
being completed in phases or all at once, and it was agreed that all at once would be easier for
residents.  Councilmember Delgado stated he spoke with several residents who have asked for
a dog park at Gentry Park.  Councilmember Shapera asked if the dog park could be a toddler
play area instead and Mr. Harrington stated he will notate the layout for both options.  Mr.
Russo stated the cost of the splash pad at Gateway Park in 2020 was $220,000.  
Councilmember Shapera stated the utility costs appear to be low and Mr. Russo stated it is a
good ballpark figure because the existing utilities can be incorporated in the plan.
