Proclamation DV Awareness Month 2023

PROCLAMATION 
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH 
OCTOBER 2023 
 
WHEREAS domestic violence is an epidemic affecting Americans in all communities, 
regardless of age, gender, economic status, race, religion, nationality, or educational background; 
and 
WHEREAS Arizona has the fifth-highest domestic violence rates in the United States, 
with about 42.6% of women and 33.4% of men experiencing intimate partner physical violence, 
sexual violence, or stalking; and  
WHEREAS over 3 million children will be affected by domestic violence this year, and 
over 10 million children are at risk of witnessing domestic violence each year, contributing to 
devastating effects such as trauma, decreased social, emotional, and cognitive development, 
physical problems, and an increased likelihood of child abuse; and 
WHEREAS enhanced education, prevention, and intervention efforts will increase public 
awareness, mobilize community action, and confront the abuse of power and control in 
interpersonal relationships;  
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alexis Hermosillo, Mayor of El Mirage, Arizona do hereby 
proclaim the month of October 2023 as 
 
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH 
 
and encourage all citizens of the City of El Mirage to support the efforts of organizations that 
provide education, outreach, and support to victims of domestic violence and call upon our citizens 
to dedicate themselves to ending all forms of violence and the abuse of power and control in
