Proclamation - Cybersecurity Awareness

Proclamation 
To designate October 2024 as 
National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 
 
WHEREAS information systems and technology are major components of the 
infrastructure of the City of El Mirage, supporting financial services, emergency 
response systems, water, and wastewater utilities and more; and 
WHEREAS the frequency and complexity of malware, cyberattacks, and other 
virtual threats targeted at internet users and El Mirage’s information technology 
infrastructure are increasing daily; and 
WHEREAS strict security standards and measures for local government have 
been established, and are in place to protect the valuable and sensitive information 
entrusted to the City by citizens, businesses, ad organizations, and require training for 
employees responsible for the care and secure handling of such electronic information; 
and 
WHEREAS the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness theme is “Secure our World” 
which empowers everyone to understand the simple ways to protect themselves, their 
families, and businesses from on-line threats; and 
 
WHEREAS, maintaining the security of cyberspace is a shared responsibility in 
which each person has a critical role to play, and awareness of computer security 
essentials will improve the security of El Mirage’s information infrastructure and 
economy; 
  
NOW THEREFORE, I, Alexis Hermosillo, Mayor of the City of El Mirage, do 
hereby recognize October 2024 as NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS 
MONTH in the City of El Mirage, and I call this observance to the attention of all El 
Mirage residents.
