PROCLAMATION ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are an irreversible and progressive brain disorder that slowly weakens memory, thinking, and skills; and WHEREAS, there are currently 152,000 people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer’s and 8.9% of people aged 45 and older have subjective cognitive decline in Arizona; and WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease has no current cure treatments for symptoms and research continues today to find better ways to treat the disease, delay its onset, and prevent it from developing; and WHEREAS, by learning more about dementia, we can lessen the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; and WHEREAS, by raising awareness and sharing stories, those diagnosed with the disease and their caregivers feel heard and respected; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alexis Hermosillo, Mayor of El Mirage, Arizona do hereby proclaim November 2024 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and, I encourage all residents of El Mirage to observe Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and support the cause that so deeply impacts families in every community across our country. ______________________________ Alexis A.
