June 1, 2021
To:
Honorable Mayor and Council
F rom:
Michelle Woytenko , Director , Field Operations
Subject: Response to Council Item of Special Interest: Camelback Ranch

Capital Fund ing

This memorandum is in response to a Council Item of Special Interest (CIOSI) raised by Council
Member Tolmachoff at the May 11, 2021 City Council Workshop requesting staff to discuss with
council the benefits of setting aside funding for capital maintenance, repairs, and replacement of assets
at Camelback Ranch.

Scoping Statement

Camelback Ranch was constructed in 2008 and includes 118,000 square feet of clubhouse space, 13
full ball fields, and 3 half ball fields. The premier facility needs to be kept in good condition while
being prudent with public/ taxpayer funds.

Goal

To get Council direction on staff presenting the concept and possible strategies to ensure anticipated
and unanticipated funding for capital maintenance, repairs, and replacement of assets at Camelback
Ranch.

Deliverables

Upon consensus from the Council, the deliverables for this CIOSI may consist of the following:
•
Forecast of future capital expenses at Camelback Ranch
•
Funding plan for capital expenses

Timeline

Staff will present to Council at a fall 2021 Workshop

Administration

Field Operations staff time required to complete the work is expected to be 180 hours. A portion of
this work was already planned to be completed by the Department. This project will likely require
coordination between the Field Operations and Budget and Finance.
