pw, Community Services Department , canes Memorandum DATE: 10/4/2021 TO: Jaime Ball, Library Development Administrator FROM: Mike Beck, Chief Librarian, Glendale Public Library SUBJECT: SGIA FY 2021-22 The Glendale Public Library intends to use this year's State Grants-in-Aid (SGIA) funding primarily to fund the purchase of public-use equipment, furniture, soft-seating, materials, and programming supplies, as well as potentially hiring program presenters and performers, to provide additional virtual or in-person public programming. Any remaining funding would be used for virtual or in-person professional development training opportunities for library staff, depending on COVID-19 considerations. The funding provides a means for the library to purchase supplies and equipment that will benefit our patrons. By purchasing newer public furniture and public use equipment, while providing vibrant programming, our library will continue to serve as an appealing community destination of choice for our through the pandemic. Secondly, professional development is an area of importance for the Glendale Public Library. We utilize all staff at all public service desks, which requires them to be knowledgeable in multiple areas. With SGIA funding, we can ensure that staff are being exposed to the newest ideas in youth, teen and adult services, readers' advisory, library technology, and program planning. Workshops, webinars and other educational opportunities keep staff engaged, energized, and ready to implement new ideas and keep the library connected to Glendale residents and our community. The need for such education is great, but like many libraries, the Glendale Public Library’s allotted budget for such training is stretched. With SGIA funding, multiple staff members will get to participate in training and learn about the latest products and services. Thank you for providing the Glendale Public Library this funding to ensure the continued delivery of vitally important staff training and public resources.
