In the fire service, it is a goal to have seriously injured patients enroute to the emergency room within 10 minutes of patient contact. Additionally, fire personnel are taught that seriously injured patients need to get to a trauma hospital and potentially on an operating table within one hour, called “The Golden Hour,” from the time of initial dispatch. Doing so greatly increases their chance of survival.
