Direct Assistance Training and Workshops

• In January 2023, Economic Development contracted with Local First 
Arizona to provide workshops and one-on-one technical assistance to 
prepare Downtown businesses for the construction phase of the DCRP.
• Local First Arizona is the largest coalition of independently owned 
businesses in the United States representing over 3,500 local 
businesses. Local First is uniquely positioned to provide technical 
assistance and training to small businesses with a well-equipped team 
of leaders committed to ensuring small businesses are prioritized in 
Downtown Glendale.

Direct Assistance Training and Workshops

• To date, all technical assistance hours have been utilized by 
downtown businesses.
• New agreement with Local First Arizona to be executed in 
November:
−More technical assistance hours
−Additional Workshops
−Small Wonders Map

DCRP Fence Line Signage

• Construction fence scrim around the downtown campus 
will be utilized to:
−Provide wayfinding to businesses in Downtown Glendale
−Promote merchants with opportunity to feature business logos 
at a nominal cost
−Honor the history of the downtown campus with a historical 
timeline 
−Provide contact information for project inquiries

• Monthly social media and print campaigns to promote -  Downtown 
Glendale is Open for Business
• Small Wonders Map (Local First Arizona)
−Award-winning map to feature Downtown businesses
−50,000 copies distributed regionally by LFA

Estimated annual cost for marketing: $50,000 
These campaigns are specific to the overall Downtown District beyond the 
marketing and promotion of specific events and activities taking place.

Daily Community Immersion

• Approximately 50-100 construction workers on-site during the 
demo and construction phases of the project.
• Okland Construction will work with Economic Development on 
tailored opportunities for construction workers to patronize local 
restaurants.
• Additionally, there are over 400 city employees working in 
Downtown Glendale –  including those customer service functions 
that bring residents/visitors to downtown.

Communications Plan

• Okland Construction will provide consistent updated information to 
be distributed to the downtown community via the Downtown 
Weekly Email Blast.
• Additionally, special bulletins will be sent out to the distribution list 
and door-to-door communication with the immediately adjacent 
businesses will be done as necessary.
• Fence scrim will be used to provide contact information for project 
inquiries.
