RESOLUTION NO. R24-68
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GLENDALE,
MARICOPA
COUNTY,
ARIZONA,
AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF EL BARRIO PARK,
LOCATED AT 54TH AVENUE AND OCOTILLO ROAD, TO
VETERANOS PARK.
WHEREAS, the renaming of the park is to honor the request of the citizens who reside near
this park site; and
WHEREAS, on February 13, 2024, Council gave direction to facilitate the process of
community outreach to gather names for consideration; and
WHEREAS, from March 20, 2024, to April 5, 2024, a survey was conducted seeking input
from the community for renaming the park. Information regarding the survey was sent to 1764
homes within a three-quarter-mile radius of this park site and a posting for the survey was listed
on the city’s website; and
WHEREAS, on April 8, 2024, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission voted
unanimously to recommend the renaming of El Barrio Park to Veteranos Park to Council; and
WHEREAS, on June 25, 2024, Council reviewed the names submitted by the community
and the recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission and gave a
consensus to move forward to rename El Barrio Park, located at 54th Avenue and Ocotillo Road,
to Veteranos Park; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE as follows:
SECTION 1. That it is deemed in the best interest of the City of Glendale and the citizens
thereof that El Barrio Park, located at 54th Avenue and Ocotillo Road, be renamed as Veteranos
Park and directs the City Manager to provide the appropriate signage to reflect the name of the
park.
