RESOLUTION NO. R25-03 
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 
GLENDALE, 
MARICOPA 
COUNTY, 
ARIZONA, 
AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF NEW WORLD PARK, 
LOCATED AT 48TH DRIVE AND GOLDEN LANE, TO AL 
MCCOY 
MEMORIAL 
PARK 
AND 
TO 
NAME 
THE 
BASKETBALL COURT AT THAT PARK AS SHAZAM COURT. 
 
 
WHEREAS, the renaming of the park is to honor Al McCoy, a longtime Glendale resident, 
local broadcaster, and community leader who resided near this park site; and 
 
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2024, Council gave direction to staff to present to the Parks 
and Recreation Advisory Commission for their consideration and recommendation; and  
 
WHEREAS, on December 9, 2024, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission voted 
unanimously to recommend to Council the renaming of New World Park to Al McCoy Memorial 
Park, and to name the basketball court at that park as Shazam Court; and 
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE as follows: 
 
SECTION 1.  That it is deemed in the best interest of the City of Glendale and the citizens 
thereof that New World Park, located at 48th Drive and Golden Lane, be renamed as Al McCoy 
Memorial Park and to name the basketball court at that park as Shazam Court, and directs the City 
Manager to provide the appropriate signage to reflect the new name of the park. 
 
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of
