Project Summary 
 
The Glendale Police Department Forensics Unit respectfully requests $23,455.11 to 
acquire cabinet and a cyanoacrylate fuming chamber with an ultraviolet attachment. This 
ultraviolet cabinet uses light emissions to safely decontaminate contents, while providing a 
safe environment for the forensic operator.   
Narrative 
The Mission of the Glendale Police Department is to protect the lives and property of those

to build a department that is highly qualified, diverse, accountable, and committed to

As Glendale continues to expand as a hub for large-scale events, tourism, and 
entertainment, the department has prioritized enhancing equipment needs to increase the 
department’s capacity to assure public safety. 
The Glendale Police Department (GPD) is a full-service, CALEA-accredited law 
enforcement agency dedicated to protecting lives and property, maintaining public safety, 
and fostering trust within the community. Founded in 1910, GPD has grown from a single 
town marshal to nearly 600 employees serving a diverse population of over 255,000 
residents in one of the largest cities in the Phoenix metropolitan area.  
This is a request for new equipment as the Glendale Police Forensic Unit does not currently 
have an ultraviolet cabinet. Ultraviolet cabinets sterilize equipment. The Unit currently uses 
a less sustainable solution of disposable supplies when sterile equipment is needed.   
The Glendale Police Department Forensic Unit currently has cyanoacrylate fuming 
chambers.  An additional fuming chamber will make the forensic unit more efficient in 
turning around evidence processing requests.  This faster processing time prevents further 
victimization and increases the potential for suspect identification in cases.

The incorporation of an ultraviolet cabinet will allow the forensic unit the ability to rapidly 
decontaminate equipment such as fingerprint brushes, tweezers, black powder etc. to 
reduce the strain on consumable supplies when DNA testing is needed. This will save time 
and money benefiting the citizens we serve. Without the cabinet, non-sustainable items 
would be consumed by the Forensic Unit.  Without a secondary CA chamber, evidence 
processing will take a longer time frame. The request for funding is in direct alignment with 
the Fort McDowell’s funding priority area of Public Safety as it improves efficiencies for the 
forensic unit in sterilizing equipment, ensuring accurate results for crime investigation and 
furthers the safety of residents.   
The target population for this are the residents of Glendale. The UV cabinet and the 
additional CA chamber scanner will first serve approximately 250,000 residents along with 
visitors to the City of Glendale. This technology will also serve the partner cities in the West 
Valley Investigative Response Team where Glendale is the leading agency in this 
partnership.  Society will benefit from the use of less disposable materials and less 
processing time. 
Upon approval of the grant funding, the Glendale Police Department would promptly order 
both the UV cabinet and CA chamber.  The goal would be to acquire and put into use within 
the next fiscal quarter after funding and approval.
